Subject: Loading ISADISK at Alternate Settings
Date: December 20, 1990
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
GENERAL
INFORMATION: A customer had the following configuration:
ISADISK from NetWare 386 v3.1 or v3.0
WD1003V-MM1 HD controller, Seagate ST-4096 drive
Aroma computer (C&T chipset and AMI BIOS)
Selected drive type 35
PROBLEM: The customer can load and run NetWare without problems using
the standard configuration (I/O=1F0, IRQ=14). He can also
change the interrupt to 15 (a hardware modification), load
it, and the file server runs fine.
The problem starts when he changes a jumper on the
controller card to select a secondary I/O address of 170
using either interrupt. In INSTALL, selecting any disk
option causes "disk cannot be found". He also said he
patched ISADISK to work at 170, but then it won't work at
1F0.
The NetWare 386 v3.1 System Administration manual pg 134
indicates that I/O address 170 should work. This appears to
be either a flaw in documentation or a bug in ISADISK.
SOLUTION: It is neither a flaw in documentation nor a bug in ISADISK.
Novell only supports Compaq's secondary ISA disk controller.
Any other disk controller must go through IMSP certification
before it will work reliably with NetWare.
